Our History – The Sprouting of a Seed
Growing up in Eleva WI, a small town population of 678, Wayne Bollinger began an iconic journey to planting a remarkable business. Working at Greener Grass Systems out of high school, Wayne developed a blue-collar mentality from the required Eleva farm duties on which he was raised. From the home-grown roots of Eleva to his hard-working mentality, Wayne ‘s drive to succeed continued through schooling to his career.
Business School Graduates from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Wayne and Julie Bollinger became owners of a family-owned business with 75 lawn care and 100 sprinkler system customers in 1984. A hand written letter placed in the Leader-Telegram vowed the community a commitment to exceptional service. Not only did they provide exceptional service, but Greener Grass Systems was the first lawn care company in Wisconsin to perform lawn care aerations.
From lawn care to irrigation services, Greener Grass Systems served local communities in the Chippewa Valley with an array of expertise and knowledge. With a foundation established for success, Greener Grass Systems expanded its business to the St. Croix Valley in 2008. The company bought out The Greenskeepers in River Falls, WI to serve additional communities in Western Wisconsin and Eastern Minnesota.
Although everything seemed to go be going perfect at the time, adversity struck. In 2009, the plant location in Chippewa Falls was captured in flames, leaving the Bollinger family with an extremely unfortunate circumstance. Years of promise and commitment was engulfed in devastation. With the community, the employees and the family in the palm of its hands, Green Oasis decided to rebuild.
Foundation for Success
With a fresh start, the company built a new office and retail center on 122nd Street in Lake Hallie, which opened in the fall of 2010. From gardening supplies to landscaping materials, the Garden Center is home for all outdoor materials. Nathan Bollinger, oldest son of Wayne and Julie joined Greener Grass in 2014 as a full-time production manager. Nathan was also a graduate from UW-Eau Claire and represents the next generation of company ownership.
Small Business of the Year
In spite of new changes, the company began a rebranding stage of all regional operations to Green Oasis in 2014. Newly naming the company and reconstructing it’s identity, allowed Green Oasis a consistent recognition. Green Oasis received the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year Award for 2015, a prestigious honor recognizing the company for its exceptional commitment to the community.
